Locations: The Old West

The American Frontier has long been of interest to the film industry. We have romanticized the wild west, and for good reason. Those that struck out with little to their names and not much more than a dream of independence were bold. In Montana, the Old West has two elements. The first being homesteading and agricultural production which the unsettled foothills of Montana lent themselves perfectly. The second is marked by the rich mining history of the region, starting with gold, then silver and copper. Many of our communities, and numerous ghost towns, have strong ties to Montana’s mining history.
